Government employees are invited to join the 2019 R.A.C.E. to Serve Fun Run on 1 September 2019, 4 a.m. at Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

Organized by the Civil Service Commission National Capital Region (CSC NCR), the fun run serves as the official kick-off activity of the month-long Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA) in September.

The fun run also seeks to raise awareness on the importance of holistic wellness, provide a venue for interaction among public servants, encourage friendly competition, and foster camaraderie.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Pamanang Lingkod Bayani (PLBi) Program, which honors government officials and employees who died in the line of duty by giving them a one-time financial assistance of Php100,000.00, a plaque of recognition, and scholarship grants to the deceased employee’s immediate family member.

There will be six categories: 3K men’s and women’s, 5K men’s and women’s, and 10K men’s and women’s. Cash prizes await the fastest runners per category.

Interested participants are advised to register until 31 July by submitting the accomplished registration form (downloadable from the CSC website) to CSC NCR at #25 Kaliraya Street, Doña Josefa, Quezon City, or to any of its field offices in Metro Manila. Registration fee is Php450.00 for the 3K category, Php500.00 for 5K, and Php550.00 for 10K.

CSC Regional Offices will also hold parallel kick-off activities in their respective locations.

Civil service anniversary

The PCSA is celebrated every September to commemorate the enactment of Act No. 5, entitled “An Act for the Establishment and Maintenance of an Efficient and Honest Civil Service in the Philippines”, on 19 September 1900. Also known as the Civil Service Act, the issuance introduced the concept of appointments and promotions in the government being made according to merit and by competitive examinations.

The theme for this year’s celebration, “Civil Service at 119: Upholding Integrity and Building a High-Trust Society”, is anchored on one of AmBisyon Natin 2040’s key areas for development planning, which is building a high-trust society. Thus, this year’s celebration highlights the role of the civil service in attaining the country’s collective vision and goals.
