BAYAN TALK: "Institutionalizing Government Dialogue With The Governed"

                          BENEFITS OF BAYAN TALK

In essence, the Bayan Talk is taking care of the public by creating a venue for the myriad of government stakeholders to be heard.  In terms of the project outcomes, the benefits are two-folds for both the government stakeholders and government itself.

Government Stakeholders’ Side:

  • Comprising the majority government stakeholders, the involvement of the poor as disadvantaged group increases their participation in the decision making process of government.
  • Their collective voice is an indispensable input to better policies and programs to be developed and implemented.
  • The common interests articulated by the stakeholders compel government into action to produce concrete results in terms of better services and wider access to these services.
  • In the long run, institutionalizing the project changes public perception from indifference to trust thus encouraging more participation of the citizenry in socio-economic and political activities.
Government (Civil Service) Side:
  • The Bayan Talk becomes a venue for greater transparency and accessibility of government services and operations because it is able to explain its side and allow the stakeholders to understand its position and predicament.
  • As a forum for feedbacking from the stakeholders, concerned government agencies are put on the spot and become obligated to be more responsive, more efficient and more concrete in their actions and responses.
  • More accessibility to the public carries intrinsic rewards and encourages more accountability on the public service providers

The interface ultimately puts more credibility on the part of government and is increases its integrity and greater cooperation.
